THE STORY BEHIND THE BOOK
While deployed overseas, Alex was intending to write a poetry book of random poetry for kids. As he began working on funny themes for poems, one idea involved eating a cactus sandwich. As Alex focused on writing the poem, he conceptualized the idea of a children's book about a cactus sandwich. Requiring an artist for this type of book, Alex reached out to his friend and fellow service member, James Petropoulous, about the idea. Through several weeks of overseas correspondence and collaboration, Alex and James developed the book featuring a south-western cactus man that explains to kids why they should, "Never Eat a Cactus Sandwich."
